Kings Canyon

Just drove in did not stay, no free camping within the park ( Watarrka National Park ) only pay camping within the resort.  Free camping 70 Km from the park one way and 25km on rough road the other way.  Drove back to share free camping spot with several other campers, then in the morning drove back to within 40km of Alice springs so that we could take the van into the Toyota service department to see if the lights could be fixed.  The rest is now history, lights not fixed, transmission blown, and the engine has several oil leaks.  Now waiting until Wednesday to see what the company area going to do to replace the van.  If not you may see photos of me standing beside this van on the  Stuart Highway asking everyone to post to social media your plight.

Alice Springs to Ulura /Ayers Rock

Left Alice Springs, had a passenger a young girl from France whom we are giving a ride to the Kings Canyon turn off.  We stayed just 50Km out of Ayres Rock at a free camping place from which you could climb up the sand dunes and see the rock. There were quite a few people camped there and meet two young sisters from Italy.  Got up early in the morning to see the sunrise on the rock but there was no color change.  Left early for Ulura and arrived  early enough to do the 10.6 Km  base walk around and be finished before it go too hot.  Later went up the outlook to see the sun set but again there was not color change on the rock.  We decided just to drive out to the rock in the morning to see the sun rise, this is when we learnt that we did not have any head lights that worked on the vehicle so could not drive out as it was still very dark.   After the sun was up drove out to the Olga's  and as the temperature was ging to be over 33 C the walks were closed for the day.  So headed out of the park and another night of free camping and then on to Kings Canyon.

September 6/7 Alice Springs.

Have spent the last two days walking into and up gorges and out to waterholes in the West MacDonnell National Park.

The first day we  traveled out to  Hermannsburg, the first Aboriginal Mission in the Northern Territory, was established by the Lutheran Church in 1877 on the traditional lands of the Western Aranda people.  

Funded by the Hermannsburg Institute of Germany who trained and sponsored the first missionaries.

was abandoned by it founders in 1891 lurched three year later by the Inmanuel Sunod of South Australia, operated by the church for the next 88 years and in 1982 restored to the traditional Aranda Owens under the Aboriginal Lands Right Act.

In the afternoon we went to Standley Chasm ( Anglerle Atwatye ) .
