December 29,2014

Up early for tour of Lightning Ridge, great tour, seen some really different forms of housing, in places no electricity or running water, but do have drop toilets. Back I early afternoon for a walk about the town and then decided to stay another night before leaving.

Driving to Cumgorah and the to The Grawin to see if we can do some fossicking for opal only to find the area is closed. Did the circuit around to Glengarry and Sheepyard, fairly good dirt roads and then off back to Walgett,Cryon, Burren Junction and on to Narrabri where we are staying this evening.
Very nice park.

Had a walk around Narrabri, some interesting places, Gunnedah, then on to Coonabarabran ( do not ask me to pronounce this one ). No more flat land, now we have rolling hills and valleys, with fields planted with cotton, wheat and other grains. also sheep, and cattle but not as many.
Did not see the New Year in, everyone in the park went to bed early. Meet some really nice people
here, so did sit around chatting for a while.

Happy New Year.
Spent a couple hours chatting this morning so was late leaving. Had been told about Warrumbungle National Park and Siding Springs Observatory, decided to go out hat way and have a look, very good idea, spectacular scenery . You can visit the observatory but can not look through the telescope.
Interesting just to see how big it is and what one can see if you could use it. Then down the winding road and off to Tooraweenah and Binnaway for lunch and a wonderful conversation with the owner of the little cafe there. Next stop Mendooran the town of murals, but they have not been well taken care off. Eventually we arrived at Gilgandra where we are staying this evening.
